It's like a whole different language!

Every summer I spend at least 4 days at my friend Kate's house (HI KATE!!).   This is always great fun, and we have an awesome time (I hope Kate agrees!).  We always go to Alton Towers (well, you can't not go, can you?!) and we do other things like the safari park, or the zoo, or Adrenaline Tubing…

But of course there are days when we just stay in.  And during these times we have to find ways to amuse ourselves.   And being us, we can't just, y'know, play Scrabble or something.   We try to… but it just doesn't work.  It's too normal.

Which is why one summer we decided to play Scrabble by just making words up.  I know that we weren't the first people in the world to do this, but hey.   And because we wanted to do this sensibly, we set ourselves a few ground rules.  No making up long words JUST to use up all your letters and get a high score.  And no unpronounceable words.

So that first summer, we just made up words.  We wrote them down, but that was it.  I've no idea where the bit of paper is with the words on is.   Probably lost.  We were kept amused for an hour or two but that was it.

The next summer (t'was summer 2002) rolled along, and we had some time with which to do what we wished.  So we figured we'd play "Scrabble a la Lou" again (catchy name huh?).  This time we added an extra twist, you had to think of a meaning for the word.

The amount of joy and amusement this brought to us is just ASTOUNDING.  I mean, really, we spent HOURS just in utter HYSTERICS.  It was FANTASTIC.  Because the meanings we thought of were just awesomely random!!

Here's a few of my favourites:

MEBOU – "hello, I'm glad you have not brought me any dead fish"

BO – thunder and lightning storms caused by angry goat gods

DAQ – a funeral parlour run by Austrian monks

EN – a day when the sky is bright blue and there are occasional fluffy, white clouds dotted throughout

GEZLY – a potting shed with no door (also known as 'useless')

IRYDU – a post to which one ties one's camel

KAILSAPT – to stand up suddenly without warning

LU – a person of great wit and genius

NOYAC – similar to 'groovy' or 'cool' but with a LU-esque air

TABEM – a lone sheep

YOKI – a dance-like movement performed on a QIJI rug in which one tries to stand up with ones legs crossed, but with a twirling flourish it all goes dreadfully wrong.

ORN – a tired pigmy hippo

NWIST - a group of three somethings

NIPWAI – "farewell and may you not be bombarded by oranges"

Of course, we weren't satisfied with JUST having made up this new language.  We spent the whole of the next day with a video camera, 2 black afro wigs and a variety of props making a video dictionary.  Which is the FUNNIEST thing in the ENTIRE world!!!  It seriously is the epitome of Lu-ocity!

If you're someone for whom this would be possible (you know who you are) then ask and I'll show it to you sometime.  Seriously, it's FANTASTIC.  With the best background music and everything.   Awesome!!!

If not, then bad luck.  But if you're liking the idea of this language (some words are more useful than others) then check out that link I gave you above, and learn a few of them.  Then feel free to use them in general conversation.  I know I do!
