I grabbed myself a few more
claim-to-fame's while I was in Oz. Sorry about this...Within
my first 24 hours I'd met Rob Mills (www.RobMills.net.au) who's an
Aussie popstar.
I also (at the same time) was front
row centre of a small audience on a live, national TV show
- What U Want -
which is a music request show and goes on for about 4 hours. Rob was a
co-presenter, and twice he sat next to me when doing link-ups or whatever.
The next week I got on
live, national TV again - thanks to the
Band in a Bubble.
This "Bubble" was in the middle of Melbourne at Federation Square, and was
on TV 24/7 on a special channel (a bit a la Big Brother). And
so when I stood outside the Bubble watching the goings on inside, I could
see that I was in the shot that was being broadcast across the country.
That same week, it was the birthday of
Jabba - one of the guys
in the Bubble. He wasn't part of the eponymous band but is
a TV presenter that
was put in there with them to commentate on the procedures, and to drive the
band members crazy. In order to celebrate his birthday, Trisi and I
bought two cakes, decorated them, and took them along to the Bubble -
wearing party hats and blowing party blowers with abandon. It was
great. And Jabba LOVED it - he came and chatted to us over the
intercom for a bit, which was cool. So not only did that mean that I
met another Aussie celeb... but, guess what? It was
on live, national TV
too!!
Next up - at the gig when the band was
let out of the Bubble - I met Andrew G and
James - two TV
presenter guys. Although they do
other stuff on TV, at the moment they're mostly known for the fact that they
present Australian Idol. AND, that gig was...
on live, national TV
as well! And apparently a clip of it, where you can just about see
me and my friends, is now being used in an
advert on TV.
Oh yes.
Me and Trisi waited
outside the Grand Final Breakfast show thingy (for the AFL Grand Final).
Whilst doing so I saw many random Aussie
Rules footballers... and recognised none of
them. I also suggested to Mark Latham
(leader of the opposition)
that he should go on a TV show called Rove [Live] again. And I saw the
Aussie Prime Minister (John Howard)
that morning too. And Trisi and I told him to go on Rove. He
just laughed. The swine.
The next week,
on Rove [Live],
Rove (the guy
whose show it is) mentioned that we'd told little Johnny to go on the show.
He thought it was cool. I'm not too sure what he actually said - me
and Trisi were shrieking joyously much too loudly for us to hear Rove talk.
Oh, I guess it should really count that every Sunday I
go to see a band called Sector 7G play at a pub. The lead
guitarist/singer is Brook.
He's Rob's guitarist
in his band. This means that if Rob's doing a performance on TV,
Brook's on too. And it also means that Brook's in the videos for Rob's
2 latest singles. Also, Anth
(the bass player) used to play with Rob in bands, and so when Rob was
on Aussie Idol
they interviewed one of these bands (MegaMen) and therefore both
Anth and
Brook were on TV then
too. (Is this getting a bit toooo tenuous now? lol!)
I also met Tripod,
at a mini open air festival thingy we went to coz Rob was doing a gig at it.
Tripod is a popular comedy band
consisting of 3 guys - and they're VERY cool. I like Tripod, don't I?
Haha. T'was exciting to meet them and get a photo with them.
That day I also
saw Trixie Tucker FROM NEIGHBOURS.
God that was SCARY. Remember how AWFUL she was in Neighbours?? (She's
Nina's mother.. and married Lou Carpenter... and kept attempting to sing coz
she was meant to be some kind of ancient show girl...) Well, she's
JUST as bad in real life. Who knew she's ACTUALLY a performer??!! You
could never have guessed. Anyways, coz I took a photo of her at the
start of the gig, she just never ever stopped grinning at me after that.
It was, quite frankly, petrifying.
I also
interacted with the dude onstage who was doing all the between-acts stuff.
He's an Aussie actor
called Steven Curry
(who Trisi and Bec love.. and probably some other Aussies do too). He
was great fun, despite his mocking of us for our love of Rob, but he loved
how much I played along with it (eg: sprinting off when he pointed out where
to get my 'win 10 mins with Rob' raffle ticket). So that was cool too.
I must watch one of his films now!
The
Aussie cricketer Brett Lee walked by one
weekend while we were down at "The Pitch" (where the street performers
perform). Trisi said "oo, that's Brett Lee!" and I said "who's that?"
and she said "a cricketer" and I said "ahh, yes, I thought it might be".
Ahhh... exciting times!
Oh, and I had a nice
chat with Santa
during my last weekend in Melbourne, too.
