Newcastle United FC!!
I love NUFC coz Mellany (Bellamy) plays for them. Well, OK, so umm.. that was the main reason, but over the past couple of seasons I've grown increasingly close to the team as a whole and I'm definitely a Newcastle fan, not just a Mell fan. Though he's still my fave player!
Newcastle is a good team. A very good team. Umm.. honest! Yep, so we have our weaknesses (*cough* defense *cough*), but we're constantly improving and we're a young team with a lot of experience already. And the more experience the boys get the better they'll get and we'll become invincible and take over the world, mwah hah hah!! Or, we might just win a cup or two. Y'know, either would do.
Anyhey, we finished the 01/02 season in 4th (we were hindered by Mell getting injured in Feb 02 and then being out for all but 20 mins of the rest of the season) but it still meant we qualified for the European Champions League!! YAY!! We started off kinda badly in this, but suddenly got on a winning streak, and made history by being the first team ever to lose our first 3 CL matches yet still make it through to the 2nd leg!! WOOHOO. The Comeback Kings prove their point (way to go Mell!).
As I mentioned, unfortunately Melly injured his knee very badly in February '02. It was actually worse than it seemed - it could have ended his career!!!! But luckily Dr Dick saved him! YAY. Little Bellers had keyhole surgery in his knee out in America, and knew after 20 mins that it was better. He told some reporters "I'll be back and I'll be better than ever". Aww - how majorly sweet is that?? Anyhoos, he did get better (and scored after 83 seconds against Sunderland which was pretty good) but then suffered another reaction. He went back to Dr Dick (out in Colorado!) but he didn't need more surgery, and so he came back, rested a little bit, scored a couple of winning goals, got sent off for violent conduct again, scored some more winning goals and so.. yeah... he's back. And then he got injured again.... and then he was back again..... and then he was injured again..... and then back again. Umm.. good job he's not injury prone, eh? *sigh*
Other than the Mellmeister we've got (to name but a few) Huuuugo, Laurent Robert, Shola, Woody, "Grandpa Al" Shearer, Kieran Dyer, Funky Given, Speedy, Titus, and (who could forget?) the wonderful Aaron Hughes. If only we could sign a decent player or two this summer so that we could properly put up a fight for the title... or at least happily secure ourselves in the CL next season. Of course, we'll probs just end up with Beattie instead... *sigh*
Anyways, it's a pain sometimes, but huzzah for footy none the less.
