You might recognise Des as the sullen one from Hollyoaks (one Mr Darren Osbourne). Or for those of you with both long memories and bad music taste, he was the cute one from the allSTARS too. Of course he shouldn't be judged on either a) the sullenness of Mr Osbourne, or b) the awful pathetic teenybopper-ness of the allSTARS. Give the guy a chance...
OK, I guess a good place to start would be the whole 'Desmond' thing. Weeeeeeellll, I blame Fon (and why not?). Anyhoos so the 'STARS' part of the ex-band's name came from the initials of the band members's names. And this is, you'll agree, very suspicious. Surely it wasn't a coincidence? Were they picked for the band specially coz of their name? (ie: did Sam beat Joshua just coz JTARS isn't a word? ...probably.) Or did they have to change their names to fit with the image? Well, we reckon it's the last one, and it's very obvious that Ash's name before he changed it to Ash was in fact.... Desmond. See, it makes sense right? Great.
OK, now that THAT's sorted I'll tell you a bit about the beloved Dessie.
He's a tres amusing person, he's always sarcastic, he's great at doing accents and funny voices, and he always makes really cute funny faces! His distinguishing feature is that he has long arms! He also bites his nails and takes too many showers. Ahhhh... the interesting facts that the Internet presents! When he was younger he played tennis for his county, and he was gonna play for England but then decided to go into acting instead. He also says that he would not like to have to stay serious for an hour.
In one of the episodes of STARStreet (which I admit, I enjoyed, except for the songs - that show's just so random) he said that he couldn't help someone do something because..... HE WAS WATCHING THE GRAND PRIX! I liked that. Plus he wears his watch on his right hand (same as me! apparently this is abnormal...). I can't believe you're actually still reading this useless crap!
He also loves 60s music (wahey) and Coldplay and his fave film is Human Traffic. And he once played tiddlywinks with me (ok, so that was in one of my dream's but still...) and I was the red tiddlywinks (in my "Understanding Dreams" book it says red "may indicate anger, sexuality or a warning". Well... tiddlywinks IS a dangerous sport... (plus it's like the BEST word EVER!!))
Des was first seen on screens as Darren Osbourne back in about 1995(ish), but he then disappeared off to America for a bit... because in real life Des had suddenly got the allSTARS job. But yep, he's back! Woohoo! And extraordinarily sullen and sulky and angry and mean.... but I loves him. And he has a little goatee beard thingy too, asserting the fact that he's no longer a little teenybopper any more I guess.
The first bit of acting he did was in his primary school nativity. He played a penguin and an oompa loompa (awww, how cute is that?!!). He comments that it was a "slightly mad production". And aww, he only had one line and wanted more. Ooooh, and he once played the Artful Dodger in Oliver, and he really enjoyed doing the Cockney accent. And when he was little he had an Alsatian dog called ... well.. umm.. I don't know. The article I read didn't go into that much detail.
Anyways, Hollyoaks is on at 6:30pm, 5 nights a week on ch4, as well as the omnibus episode sometime on Sunday. It's lovely to have him back on TV (and not singing this time! YAY!!) Hopefully the storyliners will be nice to him.... fingers crossed! And maybe one day Darren will learn to smile... I mean, the attitude is all good, but sometimes you have the need for a Desmond smile...

PS - did anyone happen to see him on Never Mind the Buzzcocks?? I'm so annoyed I didn't see that! If anyone has it on video you HAVE to send it to moi!! Or if you ever see that it's gonna be repeated (on Sky or whatever) please please tell me!! Thanks.
